Blaue Blume is an acclaimed Danish indie-rock-pop band, with a unique sound that mixes shoegaze, post-rock and melodic pop and cinematic huge soundscapes and I am out of words, I think they are almost their own genre! Their live performances are renowned for their dynamic energy and emotional depth, and I had seen a few of their concerts years ago, but never worked for them so I was super thrilled when they hired me to document their 2 biggest concerts to date in November 2024!
I like it when bands just go for the epic. Go big, go otherworldly, go huge, big booming soundscapes like you were scoring a movie. No shame in this. I am a sucker for that, if I had a band it would be like Hans Zimmer meets Depeche Mode and every track would be this 10 minute progressive-rock insane indie electronica thing. It’s a good thing I just make the pictures and bands like Blaue Blume provide the soundtrack! These 2 concerts, Falkonersalen in Copenhagen, and ACC in Aarhus were so incredibly magical, I so cannot wait for a second fix later this year, it was over too fast.
If you read my newsletter you will know I love movies and I use movies for visual inspiration for my concert photography. Well, with these Blaue Blume concerts, I didn’t have to imagine very much because Light Designer Erik Lindkvist designed the stage and light to be an incredible cinematic otherworldly universe, like he read my mind! I just love it when the room disappears and we are immersed in a universe of sight and sound unique to a band! I don’t think I have ever seen a stage setup like this, the 5 performers side by side on individual platforms, each platform framed by an LED light rectangle that moved up and down, and with 5 big ‘roller blinds’ behind them that could also extend or shorten, letting light through or blocking it. Being on stage with these huge roller blinds was somewhat like a Tomb Raider game 🙂 My head survived though, I have a knack for hitting my head on things but I only came close once or twice. These were shows where I really felt the pictures made themselves. Sometimes they don’t and I really have to work the camera, work the venue, fight the lights, make something out of nothing. But these type of concerts are my favourite, I hardly even remember clicking the shutter, all done on emotion and intuition and everything looked and sounded so fantastic.
Yes, I know, my descriptions makes no sense, maybe my pictures will. Let’s put on some Blaue Blume on the headphones and escape into the Blaue Blume universe!
